NEBRASKA CITY- The Otoe County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a death investigation after a person was found dead at the scene of a camper fire.

Nebraska City Fire and Rescue responded to the fire around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday to find a camper engulfed in flames.

A sheriff’s office press release says a body was found within the remains of the camper. The State Fire Marshal’s Office is participating in the investigation of the cause of the fire at Hidden Falls.

The Otoe County Sheriff's Office is conducting a death investigation after a deceased person was found after a camper had been on fire.

On January 17, 2026, at 3:30 am Nebraska City Fire & Rescue responded to a fire where a camper was fully engulfed at a campground on the west edge of Nebraska City.

A body was located within the remains of the camper. The State Fire Marshal's Office and Otoe County Sheriff's investigators documented the scene and are working to positively identify the deceased person and notify the next of kin.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. An autopsy has been scheduled.
