MURRAY, NE - The Plattsmouth Blue Devils took a pair of wins from Conestoga's place on Friday night, as heard on B103.

In the opener, the Conestoga Cougar girls started strong, holding a 29-25 lead at recess. Plattsmouth turned things around in the second half, though, holding the Cougars to single digits in each of the final two frames for the lopsided 71-46 win. Plattsmouth hit 7/13 at the free throw line, while Conestoga was a solid 16/24 there. Downtown was a difference-maker for this one, as the Blue Devils drained eight treys & the Cougars only hit two. Grace Rodis was the only Conestoga player in double digits with 21 points, five steals, and seven turnovers. Plattsmouth was very well balanced with five double-digit scorers. Ava Wilson & Chloe Adkins each sunk 15, Haylie Briggs was right behind with 14, and both Ruby Campin & Ashleigh Widick dropped in ten. Each team is now 2-7 on the season.

The boys' game was a nailbiter that went into bonus basketball with Plattsmouth narrowly snagging the win, 63-60. Conestoga was up 17-11 after the opening stanza, only to be tied with Plattsmouth at halftime at 23 apiece. Conestoga stayed in it with big triples, draining ten three-pointers on the night to just three for Plattsmouth. The Blue Devils, however, got it done at the charity stripe. Plattsmouth went 20/25 there, while the Cougars didn't visit the line very often...going just 4/5 there in the game. Conestoga saw Masen Merwald drop in a game-high 24 points, while Jude Keene hit for 15, and Cole Merwald connected for 12. Plattsmouth's Traceson Skalberg knocked down 22 points (9/12 at the FT line & 6/6 there in OT). Derek Nanke added a double-double for the visitors, draining 16 while snaring 13 boards; and Nathan Frederick helped the cause with eleven points. Plattsmouth improved to 7-2, while Conestoga slid to 3-5 on the season.

The teams all hit the court again on Tuesday, January 6. Conestoga will head to Ralston, while Plattsmouth will visit Louisville.
