Virginia "Ginger" Roddy
Virginia “Ginger” Roddy, age 78 passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2025 at the Johnson County Hospital in Tecumseh, NE.
Virginia Irene Roddy (known as Ginger) was born on May 2, 1947 in Omaha, NE; the daughter of Carl Farrell and Dolly Irene (McCulloch) Vest. She attended elementary school in Murray, NE and then high school in Nehawka, NE. During her school years, she was a member of the Jobs Daughters.
On June 28, 1964, Ginger was united in marriage to James Patrick Roddy at the Baptist Church in Union, NE. Two children were born to this union: Kenneth and Stephen. James preceded her in death on August 22, 2012.
Ginger worked at various jobs over the years, beginning at Bertholds Floral & Greenhouse and later at Pendleton Woolen Mills for some 20 years. She later worked at the former V.F. Outlet and owned and operated her own cleaning business. She cleaned at the local doctor’s office and St. Mary’s Catholic Church rectory for many years.
After Jim retired, Ginger and him took a trip of a lifetime to Alaska. Ginger also vacationed with Steve and Kim to Tennessee, Branson and Las Vegas, as well as trips to Colorado and South Dakota with the Click Family. One of her favorite pastimes was reading, especially James Patterson books. She enjoyed hosting Thanksgiving Dinner and baking Christmas cookies to share with family and friends.
In recent years, Ginger welcomed a little dog, Sammie, to keep her company. A mutual love and admiration was shared between them. Ginger also loved supporting her great-niece’s charity cause, Gastroschisis, in the Belly Button Poker Run. Ginger was the most giving, thoughtful and intentional lady. Her generosity knew no limits.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons: Kenneth Roddy (Sabrina) of Tecumseh, NE and Stephen Roddy (Kim Meek) of Boone, IA; two grandchildren: Olivia Kasik (Luke) of San Diego, CA and Natalie Largent (Casey) of Omaha, NE; sister Judy Beccard of Union, NE; brother Henry Vest (Kathy) of Murray, NE; sister-in-law Connie Cook of Auburn, NE; many nieces and nephews; other family and friends.
Ginger was preceded in death by her parents; brother Mike Vest in 2025 and infant sister Carleen Vest in 1951; brothers-in-law: Allen Beccard, Larry Cook and Ed Roddy (Carol).
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025 at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City. The family encourages casual wear and patriotic colors. A Private Family Graveside Service will be at East Union Cemetery.
The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday (12/28) at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to Nebraska City Rescue, the Friends of Faith Thrift Store in Nebr. City or The Belly Button Run of Nebraska.
