Violet L. Berry
Violet L. Berry, age 97 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Friday, December 19, 2025 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Violet Lorraine (Powell) Berry was born on December 15, 1928 at rural Cook, NE; the daughter of Wade H. and Ethel D. (Rowe) Powell. She attended school and graduated from Crab Orchard High School with the Class of 1947.
Shortly after her graduation she was united in marriage to James L. Berry Sr. on June 18, 1947 in Elk Creek, NE and to this union 13 children were born. He preceded her in death on June 8, 1975. In addition to raising and caring for her family, Violet worked at various jobs over the years, including the former Morton House Kitchens, Ocoma Foods and American Meter for some 20 years. After retiring from American Meter, she worked at WalMart.
Violet had a deep and strong faith and was a former member of the Sidney Lutheran Church and Percival Community Church. She currently was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Nebr. City.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters: Sheryl Briley of Nebr. City, Sharon Starner of Sidney, IA, Sharleen Sutterfield of Lena, MS, Sheila Neeman (Ron) of Nebr. City, Sharla Wilson (Michael) of Clarinda, IA, Sherry Reeves (Shane) of Nebr. City and Shawn Stukenholtz (Bryan) of Nebr. City; sons: Jim Berry (Angie) of Coin, IA, Jerry Berry (Karen) of Sidney, IA, Dave Berry of Sidney, IA and Darrell Berry (Theresa) of Tampa, FL; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; other family and many friends.
In addition to her husband, Violet was preceded in death by daughters: Shirley Thompson on Feb. 23, 2015 and Shelley Cooper on Feb. 18, 2018; her parents, brothers: Kenneth, Harold and Norman Powell and sister Thelma Kramer.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2025 at First United Methodist Church in Nebr. City with Rev. Michael Brown officiating. Burial will be in Wyuka Cemetery in Nebr. City.
The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday (12/26) at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City.
