Avian influenza found in geese migration
Influenza activity reported in southwest Iowa

CRESTON, IA - The Iowa Department of Natural Resources reports Avian Influenza in Canadian geese.
Geese were found dead at Green Valley about 100 miles east of Omaha on Dec. 11, where the annual fall migration is taking place.
The DNR reports influenza activity in southwest Iowa which had remained fairly insulated since 2022.
The public is encouraged to keep themselves and pets a distance from sick geese. Residents who see 20 or more carcasses is asked to call wildlife staff.
