Propst-Novak focuses on job Peru elected her for
Election office says recall petition fails

AUBURN – The two most recent mayoral recalls in Nemaha County have both failed.
A recall effort against the mayor in Auburn failed when election officials were unable to verify if petition circulators were present to witness signatures.
This week, the Nemaha County Clerk’s Office reports that a recall of Peru Mayor Katy Propst-Novak also failed.
Peru city employee Phillip Wemhoff turned in 60 signatures, more than the 57 needed, but six were invalid.
Propst-Novak, who was elected mayor in 2024, said she is glad to be able to focus on the job she was elected to do by the residents of Peru.
The December meeting agenda included a playground plan at Sid Brown Park, the wish list for Neal Park and softball tournament t-shirts.
