EPA picks administrator for Brownfields grant
Old St. Mary's Hospital is focus of environmental assessment

NEBRASKA CITY- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has selected Southeast Nebraska Development District to lead a $1.2 million Brownfiields Assessment Coalition Grant.
Grant funds will be used for environmental site assessment, clean up plans, support reuse planning and engaging the community.
Assessment activities focus on Lincoln’s west Haymarket, Crete’s recreation corridor, Fairbury south neighborhood and Nebraska City’s central business district.
The Nebraska City site includes the former railroad depot and a 68,000-square-foot former hospital. The former hospital at 1314 Third Ave. first opened in 1927 and was renovated in 1998. The new hospital opened in 2014.
