Jimmie D. "Jim" Harris, age 78 of Percival, IA passed away on Tuesday; December 10, 2024.

Jimmie (Jim) Darold Harris was born November 25, 1946 to Darold (Gene) and Violet Harris. Jim came into this world wearing boots and a cowboy hat with a toothpick in his mouth. He grew up rough and tough and ornery, playing pranks and living the rodeo life with his brothers.

Jim married Diana Nelson on September 8, 1972, a lifelong companionship found through grief and strengthened by life’s struggles and joys. Jim was over the moon for his grandkids, and he and Diana drove to every softball game, volleyball game, baseball game, and concert they could get to.

Jim loved rodeo and being on a horse, and he passed that love onto his kids and shared it with so many friends and their families in the arena he built with his own two hands. His legacy will be forever preserved in the many memories of those weekends down at the arena, roping, riding, swearing, and the occasional trip to the ER. His presence will be forever felt on the Harris farm, on the Waubonsie trails, and in the hearts of so many who loved him.

Jim was preceded in death by his father Gene and his brothers Bob and Kent. He is survived by his 102 year-old mother, Violet, his wife Diana, his children Jessie, Amy, Alissa, and Jay, 13 grandchildren, and his dog Bella, who brought him so much joy in the last year of his life. We lost the twinkle in his eye, and the world lost another real cowboy. Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 17, 5-7 pm at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City. Jim will be laid to rest with his brothers in a private interment at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Percival Hometown Pride.
