Benjamin Walters ceased his earthly labors on December 9, 2024 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln with his wife Rachel at his side.

Benjamin Eugene Walters was born to Troy and Elizabeth Walters on August 17, 1967 in the Tecumseh Hospital, not far where he would spend the rest of life. He was a typical farm boy of that generation, being able to play outside and enjoy the all the experiences that was part of his growing up. He went from bicycles to mini bikes to motorcycles -all being ridden in a manner that might be deemed precarious. What was unique about his early years was that 4 generations lived within 50 yards. Ben accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at the age of 7 years, was baptized a year later and was a member of First Baptist Church, Tecumseh.

Ben graduated from Tecumseh High School with the class of 1986. While in high school Ben was an extra in the television movie ‘Amerika’ and could point out which masked soldier was him in the scene he was in. This earned him the nickname of ‘Hollywood’ in boot camp.  Prior to graduation, Ben enlisted in the Army National Guard on June 6, 1985. He served 5 ½ years as a Utility Helicopter Mechanic. He was part of the 24th Medical Company based in Lincoln. With that training, and Ben’s natural aptitude, he could fix anything.

He was united in marriage to Rachel Buerstetta on June 4, 1994 at the First Baptist Church of Tecumseh, Nebraska. To this union two children were added – Jonah Benjamin in 1999 and Emma Kay in 2004.

Ben’s career in building construction started by working with his dad building, remodeling, concrete work and whatever else people needed done. Later he would add a business of cutting and selling firewood, and occasionally hedge posts. In the mid-1990’s B&W Enterprises was established to dig graves and other burial services. He served a number of years as the Tecumseh Building Inspector. Ben also was a substitute Rural Mail Carrier for the Tecumseh Post Office for 14 years.

In 2008, Ben along with Jeff Gottula and his brother Troy, started the Huff-n-Puff garden tractor pulls. He spent many hours on Saturdays and Sundays to provide people of all ages with a venue to compete with their machines. He got great enjoyment from seeing the young ones trying it for the first time and getting ‘hooked’ on the sport.

As you can see, Ben didn’t have a lot of spare time for hobbies and other activities, but he served as a Boy Scout Leader and was a Legion member of the Tracy Bates Post 370 in Elk Creek.

He is survived by his wife Rachel, son Jonah and wife Jordan Walters and daughter Emma Walters, of Tecumseh, twin-sisters Charlene Groeling and husband Keith of Pawnee City and Marlene Witt and husband Ron of Lincoln and brother Troy Walters, Jr. and wife Cindy of Elk Creek, mother-in-law Ronna Buerstetta of Tecumseh, sister-in-law Susan Colson of Lincoln, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.

Ben was preceded in death by his parents, heaven born brother Erwan Walters and father-in-law Jon Buerstetta.
