Charles Scott, Jr., 92, of Tecumseh
Charles William Scott, Jr. was born to Charles W. and Deloris M. (Bradney) Scott, Sr. on April 3, 1932 in Pawnee City, Nebraska. He attended Pawnee County Rural School and Pawnee City High School until moving with his family to Tecumseh in 1947. Charlie graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1949.
Charlie served his country in Korea with the 17th Infantry, 7th Division as a tank-platoon leader. He entered the Army on Jan. 29, 1954 and honorably discharged on Jan. 9, 1956. He then served with the Army National Guard and retired after 31 years as Major USAR. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. He served as chairman and founder of the Johnson County Avenue of Flags and was a committee member of the Johnson County Veteran’s Memorial. Charlie was also a co-founder of the Southeast Nebraska Community Band and retired after playing trombone for 25 years with the band.
He was united in marriage to Charleen Marie Schultz on June 2, 1956 at the St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska. This union was blessed with three children, Mark Alan, Lori Sue and Susanne Marie.
Charlie was employed by the Nebraska Department of Roads as a Surveyor and Project Manager. In 1998, Charlie was named Project Manager of the Year. He retired after 48 years of service. Charles was elected the first president of the Nebraska Association of Public Employees. He was a long-time member of the St. Andrew Catholic Church. He served on the Parish Council and was President of the Council during the construction of the Parish Hall. Charlie was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
After a brief illness, Charlie went home to be with his Lord on December 4, 2024 at the age of 92 years.
He is survived by his loving wife Charleen of Tecumseh, son Mark Scott and wife Barb of Lincoln, daughter Susanne Hiland and husband Jim of Bentonville, AR, grandsons, Brandon Scott and wife Cortney and their children Charlie, Sam and Ellie of Gretna, Brian Scott and wife Jennifer of Bertram, TX, granddaughters Jamie Rist and husband Marcus and their children, Emery, Leighton and Peyton of Adams and Haley Hungerford and husband Jay and their children Levi and Lucy of Bentonville, AR, brother Max Scott and wife Janis of Brownville and sister Connie Humm of Auburn, nieces, nephews and many friends.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Lori Sue and husband Ron McNabb and brother-in-law Fred Humm.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 12, 2024 at the St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska with Father Christopher Kubat officiating.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. at the church.
Memorials may go to the Avenue of Flags or the Southeast Nebraska Community Band.
Inurnment will be at 1:00 p.m. in the St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery, Tecumseh, Nebraska with full military honors by the Nebraska National Guard Funeral Honors Team the Tecumseh VFW Post #8221 and American Legion Post #2.
