An eastern Nebraska man is facing decades in prison after being convicted of killing his fiancée.

A Saunders County jury found Kolton Barnes guilty of first-degree murder in the stabbing death of 27-year-old Kayla Matulk in July of 2020 at their home in Malmo.

Investigators said at the time that Barnes killed Matulka and her dog, leaving the bodies for Matulka's young children to find.

Barnes will be sentenced on July 18th.
