Fillmore Central Stuns Auburn in Overtime in District C1-6 Boys Basketball Finals

AUBURN, NE - The Auburn Bulldogs' boys basketball team saw its season come to a shocking end with a 58-55 overtime loss to the Fillmore Central Panthers on Wednesday, as heard on B103.
Fillmore Central led for a good chunk of the game, even building a 13-point lead in the third quarter. The Bulldogs wouldn't go quietly, however, clawing their way back to force overtime on a bucket from Brenton Wenzl with four seconds left that made it 50-50 going into bonus hoops. Despite the momentum being on Auburn's side, FC responded in OT to grab the 58-55 win. The loss keeps Auburn out of the State Tournament for the first time since 2018. The Bulldogs had actually played in the State Championship game that last six seasons.
Auburn was led by the 16 points of Nolan Gardner. Wenzl hit for 14, while Cam Leslie tacked on a dozen. The Panthers saw Daniel Stoner drop in a game-high 20. Three of his teammates - Kiffin Theobald, Jarin Tweedy, and Joey Stoner - each finished with ten.
Auburn ends the season with a mark of 20-5, while Fillmore Central moves on to its first-ever State Tourney with a mark of 21-5. FC will be the 8-seed in Class C1 and take on top-seeded Lincoln Lutheran next Wednesday morning.
