Raymond Scott Matthews was born at Fort Dodge, IA on January 21, 1948; the son of Scott and Vera Earhart of Churdan, IA.  He died at his home in Hamburg, IA on July 1, 2024.

Raymond was raised in Churdan, IA, attended school and graduated from the Paton-Churdan High School in 1966.  He served in the Iowa National Guard from 1967 to 1973.

He was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart Kathy Flack on January 27, 1968 in Churdan, IA and six children were born to the marriage.

Raymond and Kathy moved to Nebraska in 1989 and recently moved to Hamburg, IA in 2022.   He was an avid fisherman and loved to fish the Missouri River for over 30 years. He loved to fish with his longtime friend Bill Harris and taking fishing trips with his sons-in-law:  Chadd Rhoades and Bill Pierce. He spent a lot of time teaching his grandsons Max Lee, Preston Matthews and Dylan Betts how to fish.  He also fished the Gulf of Mexico.  He and his wife took a fishing trip every year for 30 years to Fargo, North Dakota; Red River.   He spent many years going on hunting trips with his son Shane Matthews; hunting for mountain lion, deer, boar, red stag, moose, and mule deer.   He was a master gardener.

He is survived by his wife Kathy Matthews of Hamburg, IA; children: Christine (Todd) Lee of Ames, IA, Shane (Rachel) Matthews of Greenwood, IN, Sherry (Chadd) Rhoades of The Woodlands, TX, Samantha (Bill) Pierce of  Hamburg, IA, Harold (Ashley) Matthews of Nebraska City, NE and Becky (Jamie) Olson of Omaha, NE; grandchildren:  Michael, Maxwell, and Maddie Kate Lee, Delana and Preston Matthews, Dylan Betts and Abby Rhoades, Zach, Jacob, Savanah and Samual Pierce, Hailey and Briley Matthews, Zyan, Isabelle, Madison and Kayden (Olson); great-grandchildren:  Xeavian (Bert), Xzander (Ernie), Junior, Braydon, KuyAnna (Zoey), Maisyn; siblings:  Bill Matthews of Lohrville, IA; Denny (Janet) Matthews of Scranton, IA; sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Cindy (Craig) Balm of Carroll, IA; Karen (Bob) Gingery of Carroll, IA; Friends: Bill Harris of Nebraska City, NE and Mike and Callae of Hamburg, IA; his dog Barkley; many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Scott and Vera Earhart; grandmother Della Miller; sister Kathi (Matthews) Nath; mother-In-law and father-in-law Harold and Kathryn Flack; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Sharon and John Wagner; a nephew Joshua Gingery and niece Elizabeth Gingery.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2024 from 1:00 -5:00 at his home; 1310 Jefferson Street, Hamburg, IA,
