‘He’s the best’: Larson a spectacle in Nebraska, bringing fans from far and wide
EAGLE, NEB. - For the second year in a row Kyle Larson dazzled a sold out crowd at Eagle Raceway in the High Limit Sprint Car Series Eagle Nationals.
Larson is now a perfect 3/3 at Eagle, winning at the Cass County dirt track in 2017, 2023, and now in 2024.
The 2021 NASCAR Cup Series Champion picked up his third win of the year on Sunday at Sonoma - a NASCAR road course in California over 1600 miles away. I
f you know Kyle Larson, you know that’s not unusual - and to him, it’s just a job.
“It’s no different than a business person who has to fly to New York on a Tuesday,” Larson said. “To me, it’s just what I do… Happy to be here in Nebraska, get to race quite bit here, and once the summer months come you get to race a bunch.”
So far in 2024, Larson has won three times in the NASCAR Cup Series, won on dirt, and also picked up Rookie of the Year honors in the Indy 500. Fans came from far and wide to see the man many consider the best active driver in the world.
“His mystique, his ability, he can just drive anything… Why not come see a once in a generation talent?” Tim Matherly, race fan from Omaha, said.
“He can just drive anything,” Phil O’Halloran said. “It’s just so cool to see what he can do. He led laps at the Indy 500.”
But Larson’s importance to racing isn’t to just fans, but fellow competitors like Rico Abreu and Kasey Kahne.
“The demographic he draws to these races all across motorsports is very important,” Abreu said. “People want to see him get beat or win the race.”
“As a race car driver, he’s the best,” Kasey Kahne said. “What he can do, is race in any type of car, figure it our quickly, and instantly be competitive.”
For the third time at Eagle, Larson climbed from his 410 sprint car in victory lane. He credits another 8,000 plus to a great night in Nebraska.
“This is awesome,” Larson said. “Awesome track, awesome facility, great crowd here yet again… Glad we could come back here, this place always puts on good shows, but tonight was a great one.”
Larson now returns to NASCAR action as the Cup Series heads to Iowa Speedway for the first time. Larson currently holds the series points lead.
