He lived a blessed life, passing to eternity on January 9, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was baptized at the Wauneta Methodist Church and confirmed at Luther Memorial Church in Syracuse, NE on March 30, 1958.

Rich graduated from Syracuse High School in 1962. He enjoyed playing football and basketball. He met and fell in love with his favorite cheerleader, Karen Roettger. Rich graduated from Lincoln Barber College following high school. He married Karen on September 20, 1963 and they bought a barber shop and moved to Cook, NE. They were blessed with their son Tad Richard on December 13, 1965. Rich always enjoyed his time with Tad. From taking him along when he was little while he dug basements for Kuenning and Sons Construction up to spending the day cutting firewood and enjoying the "cutting oil" when they were done. They moved back to Otoe in 1974 to Karen’s grandparents acreage. Rich retired from Otoe County Department of Roads and then became a part time mail carrier.

Rich and Karen loved to travel taking 10 cruises, several all-inclusive retreats and road trips with family and friends. Rich loved to cook and make salsa, crock pickles, and treats to take to his friends. His passions were horses and watching his great granddaughter compete. He loved being with family and hosting friends, making special treats, and having a “cold one”! He was a long-time member of St. Johns Lutheran Church where he had served on the council.

Rich is survived by his wife of 59 years Karen; son and daughter-in-law Tad & Kellie (Urban) Kuenning; granddaughters Tina Walters, Kara & Travis "Taco" Walters; great granddaughters Nickolette Kuenning and Lorelei Walters; great grandson; Korben Walters; also several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
