Nebraska City businesses 'serving up' trick-or-treat event on Friday

NEBRASKA CITY – Nebraska City businesses are hosting the "Re-Trail of Treats" from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday.
Duane Koehlmoos of Brown’s Shoe Fit said after the Nebraska City News-Press, a traditional event organizer, announced it would be canceled, a group of businesses got together to try and continue the popular event.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, masks are strongly recommended and candy will be placed in children’s bags rather than having them grab it from a bowl.
Koehlmoos said he will be wearing gloves and he encourages family groups to social distance for the outdoor event.
He said "Re-trail of Treats" may have the most sponsors in its history, as businesses west of 11th Street have joined in. There are other businesses that do not have a storefront who have asked to come downtown and join in.
A trunk or treat featuring a Nebraska City fire truck and two police cars is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. at 1601 Frontage Rd. on Friday.
Amber Sammons Photography will take photographs of costumes and e-mail digital copies to trunk-or-treaters.
The Girl Scouts are expected to have 200 home-baked sugar cookies for their fundraiser and there will be raffles for photo sessions and a hair cut.
