Day 269: Missouri River Falls Below Flood Stage

NEBRASKA CITY – The Missouri River level at Nebraska City fell below flood stage Sunday at 17.9 feet, 269 days after it first exceeded flood stage.
A flood watch was issued on March 11, when the river level was at 10.6 feet. It rose nearly 20 feet in the next four days to set a new record of 30.1 feet on March 16.

Day 269
On Day 269, Fremont County Emergency Director Mike Crecelius reported releases from Gavins Point will be reduced by 3,000 cfs each day until the total release is 27,000 cfs, where it will remain through December.
Normal releases are in the range of 12,000 to 17,000 cfs.

Gavins Point releases were at 80,000 cfs on Day 253 on Nov. 22.
The US Army Corps of Engineers report runoff in the Missouri River basin at 56.7 million acre feet, which is the second highest in 121 years of record keeping. There were 61 MAF in 2011.
