Freezing rain Thursday caused the National Weather Service to issue a winter weather advisory for much of eastern Nebraska.

Highway conditions deteriorated so quickly that the Madison County Sheriff advised residents against travel. Sheriff's officials reported multiple vehicles in ditches and jackknifed semis.

The winter weather advisory expires at 9 a.m. Friday.
