Palmer-Wolbach-Greeley dominates Syracuse, wins junior legion title in De Witt
DE WITT - The Syracuse Post 100 Juniors (20-9) fended off elimination Wednesday when they beat Tekamah-Herman, 9-4.
To come all the way back though, they'd have to beat Palmer-Wolbach-Greeley (27-5) twice. PWG had already beaten Syracuse 8-0, Tuesday.
The Blue Ducks had little trouble with Syracuse Thursday, knocking down 17 hits and blasting the Post 100 Juniors, 16-1 in a five-inning mercy-ruled game at Cody Park - Legion Field in De Witt.
PWG captured their first junior legion baseball state title since 2005 under the direction of first year head coach Brad Reimers.
The Blue Ducks scored six runs in the second and five more in the fifth to pad the victory. In all, 11 PWG players scored, and 10 got a hit.
Jackson McIntyre was 4-for-4 from the leadoff position, scoring four runs. Ty Nekoliczak finished at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles, two RBIs and a run scored.
Morgan Behnk tossed a near-complete game for PWG, allowing only two hits and no earned runs. He struck out two and walked three over 4.2 innings. Ruger Reimers came in to record the final out.
Syracuse didn't issue a single strikeout as a pitching staff, and also committed three errors on defense. Braden LaFollette was the losing pitcher, lasting 1.2 innings and surrendering seven hits, seven runs (two earned) and two walks.
