Two people died in a head-on collision Wednesday on Nebraska Highway 33 in Crete.

The collision occurred just before 3 p.m. between Betten and Iris Avenues on the east side of Crete, Police Chief Steve Hensel said.

Investigators determined that a vehicle was westbound on Highway 33 when it crossed the center line for an unknown reason and collided with an eastbound pickup truck, Hensel said.

Both occupants of the westbound vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck was flown by medical helicopter to Bryan West Medical Center in Lincoln.

The names of all those involved are being withheld pending family notification, Hensel said. The crash remains under investigation.
