Humboldt Voters Recall Martinez
HUMBOLDT – Voters in a Humboldt precinct have recalled city councilwoman Dolores Martinez.
There were 148 votes cast in the special election July 9 and 62 percent voted to recall Martinez.
The vote was 93 to recall and 55 not to recall. Martinez was supported by 37 percent.
A recall election was scheduled after 78 valid signatures were turned in to the county election commissioner.
Martinez, who moved to Humboldt after a 25-year career with the US Air Force, said her experience as a business woman and mortgage lending officer, would help the city navigate its financial hardships.
Jamie Lynne Dorney, a 31-year-old mother of four, circulated the petition to remove Martinez from the Ward 1 seat. She cited Martinez’s treatment of city employees and spending decisions as issues.
Martinez told News Channel Nebraska about the effectiveness of her direct approach to issues, when she worked as an inspector with authority over government aviation contracts.
Petition signers indicated that a city council member, even in a small town, needs more diplomacy.
