NEBRASKA CITY-  Nebraska City Mayor Bryan Bequette is placing the USA 250 Anniversary reflection on the city council agenda through the Fourth of July.

At the beginning of each meeting, he is offering a reflection on the founding of the nation.

His first reflection is credited to the book Glorious Cause by Jeff Shaara.

The America 250: Nebraska City committee is also putting together a list of hometown heroes of the past. The committee is hoping to have 250 nominations by Feb. 15.

Monday’s reflection included protests in the colonies after King George’s stamp tax.

The semiquincentennial commissions’ official portal is at America250.org.

"... In 1775 with the stamp act, the young King George III begins to enact a series of taxes feeling that the American colonists who have benefited from the protection of the British army should show their appreciation by paying the costs."
