Travel trailer catches fire 114 miles into trade-in trip
NEBRASKA CITY – Nebraska City Fire and Rescue responded to a report of a travel trailer on fire in the northbound lanes of Highway 75 five miles south of Nebraska City at 9 a.m. Thursday.
Fire Chief Rob Schreiner said passerby helpers doused the fire with water and a fire extinguisher.
Schreiner said a tire overheated and melted some skirting. The Topeka, Kan., owners were on their way to trade the trailer off in Lincoln. Schreiner said the camper still has plenty of trade-in value after the incident.
Brianna Pfeiffer said she came across the scene first and just happened to have water in her vehicle. Her brother-in-law, Justin Pfeiffer, was hauling to the elevator and stopped with a fire extinguisher.
An OPPD crew working nearby also stopped to assist.
