HEBRON, NE — First responders and cattlemen spent several hours overnight rescuing cattle after a semi truck rolled last night on Highway 81.

The Hebron Fire Department says the crash happened just south of the town on the four-lane highway. The truck was hauling 57 cattle when the accident occurred, leaving the livestock trapped inside.

Fire officials say it took a group effort between themselves, cattlemen and Hintz towing to rescue as many of the herd as possible. After a 3.5 hour effort, all but eight cows were rescued.

"Special thanks to all who came and helped, those who brought portable pens and trucks with trailers to load cattle," the Hebron Fire Department said on social media Friday morning.

The post also says increased speed through the Highway 81 curve south of Hebron continues to result in roll over accidents.
